Best apps to track and cancel subscriptions on iOS/Android—plus where to cancel in App Store or Google Play. No sponsors, just tools.

Fin’s App Roundup: Track & Tame Subscriptions (No Sponsors… yet 😅)
Reminder: This post is for education/entertainment, not financial advice. Do your own research and choose what fits your situation.

When we first met, we talked about hidden subscriptions that we all forget about. See that introduction to myself here https://www.smartfintips.com/meet-fin/Today: the apps that make staying on top of them way easier—plus where to cancel right from your phone.

First stop: the built-in places to cancel

Before downloading anything, check the control panels you already have:

  • iPhone / iPad (App Store) → Your profile → Subscriptions (see active/canceled, renewal dates, cancel there).
  • Android (Google Play) → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions (manage or cancel)
💡
This stuff changes all the time. Sorry of the instructions are a little off

Tip: Some services aren’t billed through Apple/Google (they charge your card directly). For those, email receipts + your bank/credit card statement are the tracer bullets.

If you want manual trackers (no bank linking)

These let you list subscriptions yourself, set reminders, and see totals. Great if you’re privacy-first.

Bobby (iOS) – clean UI, quick add from a big library, renewal reminders. (App Store)

‎Bobby - Track subscriptions
‎Bobby is the easiest way to get insights in your fixed costs. Manage your subscriptions and get notified when a bill is due. EASILY ADD SUBSCRIPTIONS Adding subscriptions is easy, choose from hundreds of existing subscriptions or create your own custom subscriptions. Enter all contract details to…

Subby (Android) – simple tracker with due-date alerts and categories. (Google Play)

Subby - Subscription Tracker - Apps on Google Play
Subscription manager & bill organizer. Track expenses, get cancel reminders.
💡
Why manual? You keep control of data access, and you’ll actually notice each thing you add.

If you want autopilot find & (sometimes) cancel

These connect to your accounts, try to detect recurring charges, and can help you cancel.

Rocket Money (iOS/Android) – detects recurring charges, organizes them, offers in-app cancel for many services, and bill-negotiation options. (Site + Google Play)

Rocket Money - Take control of your money
Rocket Money is the easiest way to find subscriptions, manage bills, and even cancel recurring charges with a single click.

Hiatus (iOS/Android) – organizes recurring expenses and provides tools to cancel or lower bills. (Site + App Store + Google Play)

Hiatus | Find and Cancel Subscriptions, Budget, Track Expenses
Hiatus organizes your finances and monitors your largest expenses. Get better rates on your debt, insurance, deposits and utilities.
💡
Not sponsored by any of these—however, if you own one of these apps and want to sponsor me… my inbox is curiously open 😇

Fin’s quick decision tree

  • Don’t want to link accounts? → Bobby (iOS) or Subby (Android).
  • Okay linking accounts for convenience? → Rocket Money or Hiatus to auto-find and help cancel.
  • Always check App Store / Google Play first for anything billed there—it’s the fastest clean cancel.

Privacy & data-access checklist (read this before tapping “Allow”)

  • Scope: What accounts/cards does the app read? Can you limit to one card?
  • Storage: Do they store credentials, or use read-only access (e.g., via an aggregator)?
  • Controls: Can you export your data? Delete it? Revoke access easily?
  • Fees: Is “cancellation” or “bill negotiation” a paid service? Are there success fees?
  • Notifications: Renewal reminders at least 3–7 days before the charge?
  • Support: If you need help, is there a human?

Mini how-to: cancel at the source

If a subscription is billed by Apple/Google:

  • Apple: Profile icon → Subscriptions → select service → Cancel. You’ll keep access through the paid period. The Verge
  • Google Play: Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → select → Cancel. Same: access lasts to the end of the current term. The Verge

Fin’s tiny script for bill-lowering (copy/paste)

“Hey! I’ve been a customer since {year}. My monthly is ${amount} and I’m reviewing expenses. Are there loyalty promos or a lighter plan that keeps {feature I use}? I’d love to stay if we can bring it closer to ${target}.”

Run this once a year for internet/phone/cloud tools. It’s boring—and it works.

Key takeaways

  • Start with App Store / Play—fastest cancel for in-store subs.
  • Pick manual if privacy is your top priority; auto-finder if convenience is
  • Review once a month; negotiate once a year.
